Opportunities and Challenges of Textile/Garment Recycling in SME Clusters: An Environmental and Sustainability Perspective

  • Conducted 150 field surveys, 15 key informant interviews, and 5 focus group discussions across in Dhaka, Bogura, Gaibandha, Pabna and Nilphamari Jhut Clusters;
  • Analyzed the current landscape by mapping textile/garment recycling;
  • Identified structural, financial, and related barriers to circular economy participation by relating Inclusive circular business models through low-cost recycling solutions on upcycling, material recovery, and environmental compliance;
  • Explored the scope of strengthening of relevant policy and stakeholder engagement;
  • Optimized environmental and socio-economic impact by estimating potential reductions in carbon emissions, water consumption, and landfill usage;
  • Explored key challenges and propose overcoming measures through relevant global experiences and best practices, for recommending a strategic way forward.

We study the impacts of the climate crisis and develop measures to deal with associated risks and opportunities. We offer municipalities, businesses and governments concrete strategies and decision-making systems to help them.
